These past weeks...
Sep. 14th, 2025 08:35 pmIt's been how long? Where do I even begin?
I guess let's start with the foot saga. I saw a podiatrist a few weeks back. She gave me a cortisone shot, and told me that I could go back to regular activity at whatever level I could tolerate. After two days the remaining swelling had gone away, and I eased back into a running routine. I'm up to a few runs a week now, with no serious discomfort (the one toe still aches a bit).
Today was the day of the first half-marathon I was supposed to do this year. At the end of August I decided that it wasn't likely that I would be ready for a race of that length, so I switched into the 5K event. I was a little disappointed to have to make the change, but glad that I was still able to take part. Well wouldn't you know, I went out there and ran a personal best time, and came in 3rd in my age group. I'm really proud to have come back and achieved that so soon after everything I went through with my injury. Following my race, I stayed to cheer on all of my friends from the run clubs that were running the HM. It was a hot day, but they all did great.
Work has been ok other than month end. One of the plants was a complete dumpster fire, and it resulted in statements being very late and very inaccurate. I'm hoping they can get themselves somewhat back on track before the end of September. However, for the coming week I'm not thinking about it, because I'm on vacation - the first full week I've had off in over three years. One person has my personal number, and will get in touch with me only if something truly critical comes up. Otherwise, this will be the last time I think about work until I have to reset my alarms next Sunday.
Around the house, I finally (after two years of procrastinating) got my BBQ gas line extended out to the patio. Having a proper grill again is wonderful, and I'm one step closer to having the yard finished. Next in line is the landscaping (also two years behind schedule). I got a quote for the heavy work to get done this fall, and I'll do the last of the planting in the spring.
Plans for my week off? Well, there will be some decluttering in the house, a couple of lunches with friends, running, going the gym, and hopefully going to a local festival on the weekend. And, with any luck, a good chunk of down time to relax and recharge.
And here's where I call it a night. I was up very early this morning, and the pillow is calling. A good night and a good week to all - I'll see you next time. =]

Date: 2025-09-19 05:15 am (UTC)Yay also for vacation. Let someone else fight the fire for a bit, haha. Sounds like you've got a nice full week planned too! Wishing you plenty of rest in between all that.
And, of course, a third cheer for getting the gas line taken care of. Gotta love the feeling of finally dealing with something that's been put off for a long while.
