I've never been good at "downtime". Things tend to accumulate during downtime, which leads to feeling overwhelmed. My solution is usually to spread my to-do's out over that downtime - helps curb the feelings of being overburdened, but hampers my ability to decompress once in a while.

Lately I've started realizing how important it is to take time for yourself. I know myself well enough that if I try to carve out a slice of my weekend, it just won't happen. So I've come up with some alternatives that I think are going to work well for me.

First, I've booked off Wednesday afternoons through July and August. The original plan was to have it as a golf day, but other ideas have come to mind since then, so it will be a "whatever I feel like doing that day" day.

The other thing just popped into mind last week. I had nothing for lunch, and ended up at a nearby sushi place. I got a small meal to go and ate my lunch in the park, and followed it up with a nice stroll. It was such a refreshing break in the day that I decided I was going to do it weekly - and it's actually what I'm doing right now. In future weeks I'll likely read something or write a post here in DW, or walk, or even just sit and people-watch.

The bottom line is that I'm trying. And I think I've got a pretty good plan going. It's working out well so far.

For now I have to head back to work (slow typing = being a bit late, but oh well). Hope you're all having a great day!
