Typical Saturday night. Sitting in the basement, watching hockey. And, as is not uncommon when left to its own devices, my brain is fixating on a thought. It's not a new one, but it's hitting me more today than it normally does and I kinda feel like putting it out there - maybe writing about it will help get it unstuck?

I'd very much like to be out doing something with friends right now. Doesn't matter what - hell, even watching hockey with friends is a good time. But most of my friends are couples. Some have young families, and rarely do social things in the evenings. Others don't have kids, but do have active weekends. Either way, it seems like whenever I try to get together with anyone, they're always busy.

The other thing with couples is that when they do make plans with their friends, they very often do so with other couples. Certainly nothing wrong with that of course - it's a much more natural dynamic than having a "third wheel" along for an activity or a night out.

What happens when you're the third wheel to all of those busy couples? Well, you spend a lot of Saturday nights sitting in the basement watching hockey by yourself.

At least tonight's game is a good one.
