This past week...

A late post this week, but intentional since I was out of town yesterday. Lots to get through and I desperately need sleep, so right to it.
If you saw my post earlier in the week about the work 'event', that was about the only thing of any real note that happened at work. Well, I guess one other thing is that I finally got some second-hand information about where I fall in the org chart and who my boss most likely is. I'm probably not doing myself any favours, but I'm still not chasing down anything on my own. Oh, and a local company where three of my previous coworkers have moved to (and possibly a fourth soon), is rumored to be hiring for a position similar to mine - who knows, maybe I won't be the last one here after all.
It was a long and busy weekend. I was off Friday - got new tires on my vehicle, had lunch and good conversation with my good friend, and visited another local brewery as part of my regional tour. I'll be hitting another one of those stops this month so I can cash in on my birthday-month bonus. Curling was just ok, with a tough loss due mostly to me missing shot after shot. It wasn't a great way to end the season either, since up until the last two weeks I had finally started having fun again, only to get really frustrated with myself and lose all that at the end.
While we're on the topic of curling, this weekend was the final time our facility was used. It's being torn down after 45 years in the community, and it's not being replaced. All of our leagues - hundreds of local players - will be relocated next season to a re-purposed hockey rink. There was a final tournament on the weekend, and lots of people came out to play or watch, and for the nostalgic, to say their goodbyes. Next season will be a big change, so we'll see how that goes.
Saturday was pretty low-key during the day, mostly just household stuff and relaxing a bit. That evening a friend had another poker party, and somehow I came out as the big winner for a change! Most of the time I break even or win $5-10, so this was really unexpected. I even managed to keep it a fairly early night too, since I needed a decent sleep.
Sunday we took a trip to go see a concert in a city a few hours away. The hotel was really nice and within a block of everything we needed, we had a great dinner, and I got to try out some fantastic craft beers from various places throughout the state. The concert was surprisingly good too - not my normal musical taste, but the show they put on was incredible. It's a weird thing, I still wouldn't listen to their music, but I would definitely go see them in concert again. Today was the long trip back, combined with a bunch of shopping along the way. I was totally wiped by the time we got back, but on the plus side I was able to spend my birthday completely cut off from work (which I don't think I've ever done), so I'll take that as a big win.
And that's all. My eyes are getting droopy again, so it's off to bed for me. Have a wonderful week, and I'll catch you next time around. =]
