Apparently the past 6 months have been baby season. Two coworkers have had babies already, who I've made crochet blankets for. And, sometime in the next few days, my very good friends J&A will be welcoming their second child into the world - so naturally I've made a blanket for them as well.

Now, being as they are such good friends (we've traveled together, I was a groomsman for their wedding, etc, etc), I went above and beyond with this one. Much like the blanket I made for myself I created my own pattern, and I even added in a new technique that I've never tried before. More than that, this one even had a theme - it was designed based on the jersey of his favourite football team.

I spent about a month working on it, and even though I won't see them before the big day, I did manage to complete it on time. So I guess all that's left is to show you all what the fuss is about, right? Well here you go...

For anyone unfamiliar with the team colours, it's the Green Bay Packers. The number 2 is because it's baby #2 (clever, I know), and if it happens to happen on Thursday, it'll also stand for the 2nd day of the 2nd month (that may be asking a lot though).

The number was added on using surface stitching, which was the new technique I mentioned earlier. That alone took a solid week of failed attempts before I figured it out, and another two days to complete. It didn't turn out exactly as I wanted - it was supposed to be fully filled in. But as I added more to it, there were spots where the background colour was starting to show through, and the blanket was starting to pucker, and I decided that I was going to be less and less happy with the results if I pressed on. Still looks great!

And that, my friends, is going to bring this stretch of crochet projects to a close. I've been working on various blankets for the past 8 months, and it's about time for a break from the hook-and-yarn. I do have a number of new artsy and crafty things that I'm planning to try out this year, so it won't be long before you see another project post from me.

Wow, that really looks great! It's super impressive that you made three blankets in that short of a time.

The new parents must be so happy to have your support!

As a Chicago native, I really oughtn't express admiration for anything Packers-themed... but this looks too good to sub in favor of home team loyalty, lol. You did an excellent job! It's unfortunate that the "2" fell short of your expectations but I think it looks great regardless :D

As someone who struggles with recognizing when to let go of an original intention in favor of a new direction that'll, y'know, actually work, I congratulate you! And also offer a sympathetic pat your inner stubborn perfectionist, lol.
