New Thing… Air Fryer

Anybody got one of these things? Which, BTW, is simply a small convection oven - I won’t get into the complete misnomer of the term “air fryer”, unless someone really wants me to.  ;]

I finally broke down to the pressure from my wife to get one. I had HUGE apprehensions about it, but it is actually a fairly handy little gizmo. You can do a full meal for one person. You can do a side dish for two. There are a number of things I’ve used it to reheat, and it has all turned out really well. 

While the cook times are somewhat similar to a full sized oven, there’s a huge time savings in preheating - compared to my oven, preheat times are 3 minutes vs 15. And the results so far have been at least as good, or even better.

Now I’m not normally one to give in to gadgets and gizmos, but this time around I’ve been pleasantly surprised. Not sure how it would be for a larger household, but for one o two people it’s proving to be worthwhile.  =]

I don't have an air fryer but I do have an oven air fryer crisper (I think it's this one). I impulse bought it some years ago on clearance and it's been one of my favorite ways to cook ever since. I actually just made some Italian sausages in it for dinner tonight. My sister-in-law got a proper air fryer recently and keeps telling me I should get one but I can't be bothered since I've got this thing already. Although, now that you mention the decreased preheating time, hm...

Anyhow, I'm glad that you've been pleasantly surprised! Do you have a favorite food to cook in it?

We had one of those copper baskets a couple years ago. Gave off a really bad smell when we used it, so I think it only lasted 2-3 uses before we tossed it.

No favourites yet - we’ve only had it a couple weeks. For now we keep trying different things to see what works out best.

Oh, wow, really? How odd! We've never had any such problem with ours. It wouldn't have lasted two uses, heh.

Always good to experiment with new gadgets! I hope it continues to do well by you guys :D
