This Past Week...

What a week. I'm going to bullet point everything first, and then elaborate on a couple of things after that.
° The chaos leading up to the system changeover was exhausting
° The actual changeover went fairly smooth, with very few small issues to clean up after
° Had a decent evening of unwinding the next day
° Worked a lot on the weekend, just trying to get my feet back on the ground
° Completely lost track of all my personal goals for most of the week
° Pushed back at my boss in the Monday meeting, which I think surprised him and the other managers almost as much as it surprised me
° Got through month end with no real issues
° Getting back on track with my goals this week
° Starting to get some plans in place for how to get through the next 3 months without letting things degrade to this level again.
Thursday evening was a good decompress. No work, no chores, turned some random leftovers into a great dinner, sat by the fire with a whiskey. But I think the best part was that I didn't just go into shut-down mode when I got home, and I was actually able to get the relaxation out of that time.
My boss. He keeps coming with all these requests from the new management above him, for reports and analyses that we simply don't have. But he keeps pushing to get them, and I finally had enough. I didn't blow up or do anything stupid, but I quite plainly reminded him that I'm currently handling the workload of 2 people, and that 150% of my time is being spent supporting operations. I also told him point-blank "I don't care what they are asking for. If it's that important, they can either get it from the plants, or they can hire someone to do it, because I won't.". This place is my job, not my life - I'm not getting pushed into giving my life away.
Finally getting back into some light exercise, which feels good. And for those who were wondering, yes, I managed to mend my mitten without mishap. And looking forward to the weekend I'm heading over to Detroit for a Tigers game, which will be a good day (although, the game ends right about the same time as the Taylor Swift concert kicks off at the stadium right next door, so it could be quite interesting trying to get around afterward).
That's about all for this time around. I'm off to do a couple of things before going to bed - and hopefully to sleep. So long! =]

Date: 2023-06-08 09:18 pm (UTC)Those that have left already are fairly low in seniority and had no trouble walking away. Most of the ones that are left have been around for years and don't want to give up the benefits of their seniority, but at the same time don't have anything holding them back if they do decide they've had enough.
Then there's me. I've been around for a very long time, and for a variety of reasons, I can't just walk away. I'm pretty much stuck there. So I have to stand my ground, otherwise they'll keep trying to take advantage.
In the end it could still cost me my job, but at least I'll leave with my self-respect. =]

Good for you, standing up for yourself! And for mending your mitten!

Date: 2023-06-09 11:13 pm (UTC)And yes, the mitten is mended and was easier than I thought. Being a gift I just didn't want to ruin it. Plus, since it's knit and not crochet, I had some trouble seeing the stitch pattern at first. But all's well that ends well. =]
