I would move my weekly post to Thursdays, except I'd still end up being late and doing them Fridays. =[

Good things first this time. My trip last week was terrific! Decent weather (a little rain, but not a washout), a gorgeous golf course, and tons of top-name pro golfers to watch. An extra bonus - food and non-alc drinks were included in the ticket price. Definitely got our money's worth on that deal, and the 20 KM (12.5 miles) of walking that day easily burned off all the calories. That's the 3rd pro tournament that my friend and I have been to, and plans for the next one are already in the works.

I was almost entirely off the grid from work for those 3 days, and was too busy the rest of the weekend to even think about trying to catch up on work things. But the mayhem I came back to on Tuesday was even more than I expected. I found out we're losing 2 more people from the department. On January 1 our Accounting department had a total of 20 people. We now have 12 - a decrease of 40% in 5 months. Now, we had a retirement in there, and it was a no-brainer that the executives would be let go right after the sale of the company. But the new supervisor that replaced the retiree quit after 8 weeks. The temp covering a mat leave, who reported to that same supervisor, basically walked out the week after that. And just this past Thursday, the manager that all that workload got dumped onto - you guessed it, she's leaving now as well.

Over the past several years, our department had been cut to the absolute minimum. Just enough people to do the day-to-day transactional work, and virtually everything analytical had been deemed non-essential. The new management team (more VP's than our entire department) has come in guns-blazing, looking for all kinds of information and analyses that we don't do, and don't have the resources to develop. Heap on a 40% reduction to our already bare-bones workforce, and folks, that's what I call a cluster-fuck of the highest order. It won't be long before more people reach the end of their ropes (2 that I know of are already looking, and another could retire whenever she feels like).

So, yeah. Those are just some of the things happening around me, never mind my own work-related shit.

[Hmmm... You know, as I sit here writing out these things, the cynical part of my brain is kicking in. I wonder if the goal here is to get as many people as possible to walk away, to cut down on severance costs? I'll have to keep that nugget in the back of my mind.]

Coming up in the next week - lunch plans tomorrow (which I'm very much looking forward to), and dinner plans Sunday (which I'll likely be doing the cooking for, but that's ok). Beyond that, work, work, and more work.

That's all I've got the energy for today. Time to make an attempt at sleeping. I'll talk to you again soon. =]

Glad to hear your trip went well! And very sorry to hear that you came back to such a mess at work. I have to say, I'm in agreement with the cynical part of your brain here. I hope things look up for you soon.
