These past weeks...
It's been so long since my last real post that I'm sure I'll forget some of the things that have gone on - but let's see how we do.
Last we spoke I was just ending the holiday crush, and was in search of some downtime. I did end up getting a few days of rest after that, although I think I could have spent some of that time a little better. I also went out for New Year's Eve for the first time in forever. It was an ok night, but I don't think I'd go to the same event again.
Coming back to work for month-end was a pain. The deadline unreasonable considering the holiday - they gave us time off but still expected a 2-day close, meaning they expected people to work during that time off to meet the deadline. Then I found out that the US accountants decided (without telling me) to not put through entries that I had prepared because they "didn't believe they were right". Caused me some big problems, and I had to spend two days documenting and explaining why the entries were both correct and necessary. People with "credentials" far too often think they know everything, and won't listen to the people that actually do know what they're talking about.
I was able to get together with my good friend several times over the past few weeks. We had some good conversations about some of the things that had been weighing on me recently, and it really helped me work through them. Not everything was solved, naturally, but I do feel much more like my normal self again. And don't get me wrong, there were lots of enjoyable times in there too (it wasn't all serious and emotional).
I haven't been to curling in a month. There was the holidays, then there was bad weather last week, and this most recent week I took the night to go out with friends from the run club on a pub crawl. That's something else I haven't done in a very long time, and it was a blast. However, I was extremely sluggish yesterday, and even had to skip poker night, which I was pretty unhappy about. But I had absolutely no energy for being out and around others, so I took it easy and rested.
Lastly, I got my 2025 goals together last weekend, and I've just finished my first full week. Surprisingly I only missed one item, and that was leisure time at home. I knew I'd miss that one though, because I'm spending time each day getting my planner competed for the year (the time has to come from somewhere). It's very encouraging that I was so successful right out of the gate. I know I'll have some challenges with some items and won't get such high scores all the time, but at least for now it looks like they're achievable.
And with that I'm going to call it a night. Have a good week ahead, and I'll see you next time. =]
